Researching ancestors, searching genealogy sites and making a family tree takes a lot of time. You must get in good habits now and use acid and lignin-free products. Use these tips and your documents, records and pictures will be enjoyed for many generations.
Many families have various types of family records. You might start by doing a hand-written sketch. Then you can scan it, email it to family members and ask for their comments. You will get responses and your family history is started.
I know nothing about my four great-grandmothers. If my grandmothers mentioned them, I don’t remember the details. So what if I wanted to find them? Could I do it? I could search census records, marriage records, death records, immigration records, and family records. That would be a lot of work, right? Let me tell you what is going on right now. Rather than ordering microfilm of old records, these old records are being indexed. That way, you will be able to find your ancestors quickly with a simple computer search. You can index too. Genealogy – defined as ‘an account of the descent of a person or family through an ancestral line’, or alternatively, ‘the investigation of pedigrees as a department of knowledge’, is a high faluting description of what, to the rest of us, is known simply as ‘tracing the family tree’. Studying and honoring the life of ancestors which includes the archiving of their name lists in a family tree or a pedigree chart is called family history or genealogy. All the link gaps are needed to be filled up in order to complete the linkage of each generation. There can also be materials that are kept that tell the stories of the lives of some of the ancestors especially when there are heroic deeds done by them.
