Rhode Island was established at Providence (Providence
Plantations) in 1636 by an English clergyman, Roger Williams. He and a small
group of followers left Massachusetts Bay Colony to seek freedom of worship.
At the bottom of this page are some websites that show some of the history
of Rhode Island.
The only book I have on Rhode Island is the
1908 Warren
and Barrington Directory. This book was full of old
pictures and some great advertisements too. Plus the residential pages
which I have online (click the link to the left). Below is list of the other
information listed in this directory and is included on the CD.
The directory includes:

The Bristol, Warren, Barrington Business
Directory includes:
Bakers, Boot, Bottlers, Contractors, Emigration Agents, Expresses,
Grocers, Ice Dealers, Lubricating Saddles, Lumber Dealers, Musicians,
Physicians, Road Builders, Roofers, Telephone Companies, Tents and Yacht
Agencies.
There is a section of out of Town Ads which
includes: Confectionery, Foresters, Funeral Design, Marine
Motors, Masks, Real Estate Agents, Restaurants and Yacht Supplies. Plus a
section which includes: Bristol Town Offices, Warren Town Offices and
Barrington Town Offices.
The first part of the book has a number of pictures
and illustrations of different parts of the towns. I have
