The Gift of Greeting Cards: Pass It On
If there were some things you could pass on to the next generation, what would they be? It’s too early to say, but love letters and greeting cards make exciting reads, and they do take up little space in the family trunk.
As human beings, you definitely will pass on certain traits to members of your family and to the rest of your genealogy tree. Your most dominant traits like the color of your skin, the texture of your hair, and your body built would manifest themselves in your children and in your children’s children. Your other recessive traits would still show here and there in the following generations. Ironically, you have inherited and will pass on certain genetic diseases and predispositions to health problems which come with your DNA makeup.
Is DNA material all you’ll be passing on? Fortunately, you could also be passing on certain family traditions like family gatherings on holidays like Thanksgiving and exchanging gifts and greeting cards come Christmas. You could still play football on the lawn or frolic on the beach even when you’re all grown up. They are an essential part of how you enjoy a sense of togetherness and keep family ties close as ever.
On the other hand, what if you’re passing on some excess baggage in the family? There could be some guilt, anger, and hatred lurking somewhere in the family closet, or lashing out there in the open. Sadly, broken relationships leave their mark on people, and although time heals all wounds, some hurts and grievances are hard to forget. We need to send people off on their travels or independent lives with gifts of blessing and well-wishing through greeting cards and not send them away with doubt and negativity.
Come to think of it, it’s about time to break the cycle which keeps families apart. Greeting cards make it easier to both apologize and forgive. In not so many words, they put on paper the messages which are so difficult to express but which need to be said.
The family of humanity identifies with many of these negative feelings which happen to many homes. We can’t deny that people in the world have become suspicious of each other, and they go through society practically numb and detached. Things left undone only leave your questions unanswered, while a live well-lived leaves no room for regrets. The heaviness needs to be lifted, and we all need to lighten up.
These are barriers which greeting cards, with their random acts of kindness and persistence, are able to cross and reconnect. Wish cards are designed with a universal appeal which could touch everyone’s heart. In beautiful illustrations and writings, they carry messages of inspiration which appeal for each one of us to change the world in our own little way.
The reality is that it is still a good world, and there are people out there just like you and me looking for the same gifts like love, peace, and harmony. We share many things in common, and we aspire for much the same things in life like a happy family and good health. If there were some things you could pass on to the next generation, then let it be stuff like love letters and greeting cards which carry on what we treasure most.
