AIT3 tape technology enables the retention of data on media which is non-erasable and also non-rewritable at the same time. Before the process of recording begins, the verification of the AIT WORM cartridge is done by the AIT tape drive. If the tape drive identifies the tape cartridge as AIT WORM, then after passing several other additional tests the writing of data will be enabled. Information of the identification between storage media and the Remote MIC chip is confirmed by the AIT WORM. Assuming that the pre recording session was successful, the last group count is organized which is then searched along with EOD (end of data) by the AIT-3 tape drive. Writing is then allowed by AIT3 on the maiden space followed after the pre recording of Last Group Count (addition of one) or the end of data. The data tape becomes read only and further recording of information is not allowed by the AIT3 tape drive if recording process fails and the EOD (end of data) is not recorded.
Tape drive of AIT WORM is designed specifically as the erase head is excluded. Therefore in this way the erasure of recorded data on AIT-3 tape cartridge either unintentionally or intentionally is precluded. Requirement for the format of non erasable & non rewritable is effectively met by the AIT-3 media technology. These requirements are met by AIT through different new safeguards like the over writing is preempted due to the communication between the embedded software in the AIT tape cartridge and the AIT3 tape drive’s hardware.
