Colon Cancer Staging and Grading
Only after you have had a DRE and a PSA test can it be detected. If the cancerous tumor has enlarged the prostate and begun to press on the urethra, the signs of prostate cancer may begin to show as this causes the passing of urine painful and more difficult than usual.
Colon Cancer Staging and Grading
A man's prostate can get enlarged as he grows older. The bladder or the urethra can also get blocked. This condition is generally also known as "BPH" or benign prostatic hyperplasia which is a condition that is not cancer but has similar symptoms as signs of this type of cancer. Confirmation of this condition can be done by testing.
If you find yourself with symptoms like the ones mentioned above, you should not ignore it but your doctor should be immediately consulted as you may have to undergo tests to determine the causes of the said symptoms. Most prostate enlargements however do not mean that you have prostate cancer.
Common signs include are:

• Urgency or an intense need to pass urine
• The need to urinate is very often during the night
• Difficulty in starting the flow or stopping the flow of urine
• Inability to urinate
• Burning sensation or pain during urination
• Interrupted, weak or decreased stream of urine
• Traces of blood in the semen or urine
• Painful ejaculation
Men with a family history or even African ancestry are at greater risk of developing the disease and should consult a doctor as to whether they should be tested early or not. The PSA and DRE tests helps to detect prostate cancer at an early stage but sometimes the signs of prostate cancer can be missed. These tests have certain limitations and can also cause "false alarms" as they can detect symptoms that may not pose a threat to you.
Some various types of this cancer grow slowly and gradually and can be present in the human body without being detected or affecting the health of the person. This is the reason why it is very essential to discuss the risks of developing prostate cancer with your doctor as well as certain benefits and risks that are involved in testing for signs of prostate cancer.
Some of the questions that are needed to be asked are:
• What are my risks of developing prostate cancer?
• How much do the tests cost?
• What are the types of tests I should undergo?
• What are the merits and demerits of having the tests?
• In case my tests do not appear normal, what is the next step?
• How often and how early should I undergo testing?
Many cases of this particular type of cancer cannot really be detected until it really spreads beyond the prostate, as there are no noticeable signs and symptoms in the early stage. If the cancer is localized within the prostate itself then treatments like radiation therapy can help. It is therefore important to undergo both the PSA test and the DRE test to be sure. Early signs of prostate cancer do include urinary symptoms that are also caused by prostate problems that are benign. Additional symptoms are the swelling in legs and discomfort in the pelvic region.
